Yogurt is a staple here in our household – it’s good for us, it’s good for the dogs and it’s good for the gliders. I feed it at least once a week here, and the gliders go crazy!!!
Let’s talk about the benefits of yogurt, shall we?
So first…a healthy amount of “good” bacteria in your digestive tract is important. Many of the yogurts you see on the shelf at the grocery store are made with this “good” bacteria, or probiotics. You will know if the yogurt you have chosen has this “good” bacteria, as it will have “live and active cultures”, written on the label. A healthy gut is a happy gut!
Second…yogurt is filled with several nutrients! Calcium, Vitamin B2 and B12, potassium and magnesium, just to name a few!
Now…while feeding yogurt is a good thing for your gliders, you need to make sure that you purchase the RIGHT kind of yogurt. I’m not talking about the brand, it’s up to you to choose that. But, you do NOT want to purchase NON-FAT yogurt. Non-fat yogurt is artificially sweetened and usually with an ingredient called ASPARTAME. If you see this word on ANY product you are feeding your gliders, simply put it back on the shelf and move on. It’s artificial, people! Run!
All flavors (except chocolate) are fine. I generally purchase plain old Dannon vanilla yogurt and call it good. It’s cheap, and for those of us with several gliders, cheap is good! LOL
